Happy Birthday, Mickey Mouse

Thanks to Poppy - we learned that it was Mickey Mouse's birthday today, so of course a celebration was in order! Eli and Ethan began the day with dragging out Kristin's Mickey and Minnie and posing for a photo.

Okay, I know we don't look very happy - but this was BEFORE we took Eli to school, so it is pretty early!
After Ethan and I dropped Eli off at preschool, we made a quick stop at Wal-Mart to gather our supplies for the birthday party. We found some cute Mickey Mouse plates, pencils and a few other necessities! I thought the Fall pencils were such a hit - we might as well get Mickey Mouse ones as well.
After making cupcakes, a quick nap for Ethan, and a few other chores, we were ready to go back and get Eli.  He was excited to get to help put the icing on.

And Ethan was happy to play with his new Christmas Mickey Mouse.

He liked the Mickey Mouse blow out too, but he couldn't quite figure out what to do with it...
Eli was in charge of setting the table.

Ethan was the first to try a cupcake.

Eli kept tricking me and blowing the candle out BEFORE I snapped the picture.
Jackson came down after his nap and joined the party.

Notice the Mickey Mouse sippy cup - I forgot to give Ethan his - it will be for another day.

The boys approved of the cupcakes! Eli and I also made a Mickey Mouse tree ornament. He wanted to paint the whole thing, but I convinced him to paint in the lines. We'll have to switch out the brown nose for a black one later. We saved Henry some cupcakes and hope to celebrate with him soon.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MICKEY MOUSE - YOU LOOK VERY WELL FOR 81!

Grandmother Shower

Last week, the ladies of our church had the pleasure of hosting a grandmother shower for Elisa, our pastor's wife. They have just become the proud grandparents of a precious baby boy and we wanted to have a
celebration!

Lots of gifts, everything a grandmother could want for that new grandboy!

FOR TODAY, November 16, 2009

Outside my window... cooler morning, raindrops on the window screen, trees are looking more wintery.
I am thinking...How blessed I was by the beginning of our "GROW" program last night. Good visits with friends, new contacts for our church, the blessing of being able to share the Love of Christ with our neighbors.
I am thankful for...our veterans and the soldiers who help to keep our country free.
From the learning rooms...God's Word in I Chronicles for me; Continue with our Veteran's Day project and learn about Thanksgiving this week.
From the kitchen...pear cobbler, goulash, a birthday cake for my husband that should have been made on Saturday!
I am wearing...Walk for the World tee shirt and p.j. capris
I am creating...Christmas memories for the grandchildren...A little Christmas in every room.
I am going...to enjoy three little grandboys today.
I am reading...my Bible, and anything about the Wisemen to enhance the Christmas play.
I am hoping...to honor God in all that I do.
I am hearing...the hum of the computer and ....silence...
Around the house...Enjoying being home and taking my time with decorating. My goal - not to feel rushed this season. Taking the time to enjoy the little memories.
One of my favorite things...quiet time in the mornings with my Bible and my notepad.
A few plans for the rest of the week: learning, laughing, living each day loving my family.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

From the Simple Woman's Daybook

For Monday, November 9, 2009
(Yes, I know it is not really Monday - but I thought about it on Monday!)
Outside my window... Sunshine! Birds singing! Sadly some of the more beautiful leaves almost gone.
I am thinking... How blessed I am to know God loves me, created me, understands me, blesses me beyond measure.
I am thankful... for good fellowship with family on Tuesday nights, a new tradition we have started.
I am wearing...old clothes and glad I don't have to think about what to wear each day, now that I am retired.
I am going...to PaPa's, AWANA, a grandmother shower, and a wedding shower this week - Hmmm - What happened to simple??
I am remembering...our Veterans - PaPa told us that he landed in Lafar, France (I'm sure that is not spelled right... must research it.) and from there went to Germany. My daddy served in Korea.
I am hoping...to learn more about how PaPa served in World War II and find a photo of Daddy in Korea to pass on to Eli.
From the learning room... Veterans' Day... Making medals for the Veterans Eli knows.
I am reading... I Chronicles and praying the prayer of Jabez. Oh that thou would bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me... And God granted him that which he requested.
On my mind...being a witness to all that God is Able.
From the kitchen... buttermilk pound cake, fresh pears, breakfast with Joe,
Around the house...hoping to work on the hall, paint the trim on the dining room window, paint door and shutters. Hmmm.. probably won't happen this week!
One of my favorite things...finding another blog that really touches my heart. Thanks to "A Thankful Woman's Book of Blessings...The music brought tears to my eyes - Thanks be to our God.
